Ingredients
4 tbsp of butter
4 tbsp of flour
3 cups of milk
1 tablespoon of salt (15g)
1-2 teaspoons of pepper (5-10g)
Instructions
- Melt butter in a NON STICK saucepan over medium heat, you can let it brown if you like.
- Add in the flour until its all disolved in the butter (important you add the flour before the milk, this prevents lumps)
- Pour in the milk, and mix, keep on medium heat.
- It will slowly start to thicken. (~10 minutes) Just keep stirring it occasionally to prevent anything from sticking to the bottom.
- Add in the salt and pepper, and mix. Add more salt or pepper to taste.
Notes
- I like to use frozen sausage patties on the side and add them to the gravy after it's done.
- You can cook ground pork and substitute in pork fat in place of butter (peronsally I don't notice a difference in flavor)
- If you make this same recipie using beef tallow in place of butter (beef fat left over from cooking ground beef) it taste amazing.... I like to make meatballs and rice. Then make gravy using the beef fat to pour over the rice.
